This module aims to provide learners with a basic understanding of how blockchain technology is transforming supply chain management by improving transparency, traceability and efficiency. First, the key challenges faced by traditional supply chains (lack of transparency, data inefficiency, counterfeit risks, etc.) are highlighted in this module. Further, it demonstrates how blockchain technology can address these challenges. It showcases specific benefits of blockchain in supply chains, such as increased traceability of product movements, faster identification of contamination sources, improved data management and collaboration.

Skill to be developed

This interactive module will explore how blockchain, a distributed ledger technology, is transforming supply chains. Learners will discover the benefits of blockchain, explore real- world applications, and gain insights into its prospective impact on supply chains. In order to achieve that, participants will be able to explain blockchain as a distributed ledger, emphasizing its core principles of decentralization, immutability, and transparency, which are relevant in the context of supply chain.

Furthermore, learners will identify the benefits of applying blockchain in supply chains, such as streamlined data management through a single source of truth shared among multiple participants along the supply chain. This enhances traceability and real-time data of products, and increases security against fraud. In addition. participants will also understand the concepts of smart contracts, which is self-executing code stored on the blockchain, and explain their role in automating specific tasks within the supply chain process.
